Friends and Colleagues, The Global Women's Institute would like to cordially invite you to a lunch-time presentation of From a Personal Grievance to Public Law: A case of Pakistan with author Dr. FouziaSaeed on Tuesday, April 30th from 12pm-1:30pm in Marvin Center 402-404. Dr. Saeed will discuss the content of her book, Working with Sharks (which you can read more about here).Working with Sharks is a riveting account of sexual harassment at the United Nations in Pakistan. Dr. Saeed narrates her harrowing personal experience in the context of Pakistani culture and her struggle to deal with male colleagues at the UNDP mission in Islamabad. She currently serves as chairperson of Mehergarh, an Islamabad-based human rights and democracy NGO that conducts training and research on youth activism and empowerment, and a visiting fellow at the National Endowment for Democracy. During the luncheon, Dr. Saeed will connect her experiences at the United Nations to her work in Pakistan as head of Meherfarh, which has successfully pressed the Pakistani legislation to enact ten bills addressing the human rights of women.This event is an installment of the Global Women's Institute Faculty Luncheon series, and is co-sponsored by the Graduate School of Political Management.
